Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) Fight Club
Excuse the swearing, I don't care, but some of you might. I liked this quote, I am not completely sure why. Maybe because it's completely true. Of course I always pull the spiritual meaning from everything I read. this is no different. Sometimes, when I am alone, I think slower than normal. I analyze our country, and the reality of how we live, and I can't stand the reality of how we live. But mostly, I live in a state of doing the things that I hate. Buying things I'll never need, and looking forward to meaningless moments of pleasure. Maybe I need to almost die or something, then I could think more clearly about whats important. Then again, I guess it would be easier to come to that conclusion on my own, without the near death experince. Who knows, maybe this is the start. -jer |
